Good Morning Gorgeous,

It’s a brand new day. A fresh start. A new day to rise and flee to the shelter of the Lord.

Over the weekend, I read Psalm 91. As I read it, I noticed that the main theme throughout is the widespread protection of the Lord.

There is another part to this protection. It is ever available to us, but if you read closely we have a part to play in receiving the protection.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord , “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2

If you look closely, this protection is available to everyone who DWELLS in His shelter. We have to dwell or live in His shelter. We have to stay in the shelter to receive the protection.

The definition of dwell is to “live in or at a specified place”. When you make your home in the Lord, you will be protected.

If you are outside and it begins to rain and storm, where will you find shelter? In your home, in your dwelling which is there for you, but to receive the protection from the elements that your home has to offer you, you must enter your home. You have to go inside. There is a part that you play in getting shelter, and it’s just to enter.

The Lord has prepared the same shelter for you to care for you emotionally, spiritually, physically, and to cover you from any scheme of the enemy. You just have to flee into His waiting arms. And for the most protection, learn to dwell there. To stay there, to be always close in His protection.

When you feel left out, flee to the Lord. You will find shelter.

When you feel battered by the storm, flee to the Lord. You will find shelter.

When you feel lonely, flee to the Lord. You will find shelter.

When you feel scared, flee to the Lord. You will find shelter.

When you are being attacked, flee to the Lord. You will find shelter.

When you are facing any storm, any grief, any dark hour, flee to the Lord. You will find shelter.

A few lines later, the Psalm promises that He will cover you with His wings and you will find refuge. In order to be in the shadow of something, you have to be close by. The shadow covers things that are close.

And in another verse of the bible, Jeremiah tells us exactly how to stay close! Call on Him. He promises that when you pray, He will draw near to listen.

So the best way to stay close to the Lord is to dwell in His Presence. To talk to Him. To sing praises to Him. And when you are close by, not only will you be so close that His shadow covers you, but the Psalm goes on to say that you will not fear arrows, dangers in the dark, or even the plague.

If you make the most High your dwelling place, He will protect you.

And in the New Testament the covenant is widened even farther. All who believe in Christ become the dwelling place of the Lord. He comes into our heart and He makes us a walking temple of the Living God. So now He is with us always even to the end of the age. When you invite Jesus in, you allow the Lord to make you His home, you will be protected.

So the offer is there by the Lord. Come to Me. Believe in Me. Accept Jesus. And stay close to Me. Dwell in me. And I in you. Live in constant communication and prayer with Me. You will be given a peace the world doesn’t have. The peace that comes from knowing that no fiery arrow or scheme of evil can harm you. Because of the salvation of Christ, not even death can have its final say over you. What is there to fear if even death has lost its sting?

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord , “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord , “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help us to learn to dwell in You. To stay so close that we don’t have far to flee when we need help. Let us learn to stay connected to You. Completely living in You as our dwelling place. Teach us to make You our home.
