Need Help Memorizing Scripture? Check out this tool!

Good Morning Gorgeous,

It’s a brand new day. A fresh new start!

A new day to rise and try again.

A new day to get before Jesus and invite Him into all that is on your heart and weighing heavily on your mind.

He is the best listener, and He also has specifically what you need today.

Encouragement, healing, peace, equipping, empowerment, love, acceptance, identity, truth, and so much more!

These are things that the world just can’t give like Jesus. Jesus gives the real, authentic versions of love, identity, peace, etc..

The world offers cheap counterfeits that never fully satisfy.

And sometimes I run to the world for my fill. Sometimes, I engage in old ways of fulfillment like identity in my work, people pleasing, staying busy with more than is realistic, and those things are numbing and they feel good. They soothe temporarily.

But they never last and they never actually feed my soul.

Ahhhhhh, but time with Jesus. Times when I sit before Him and just pour out my heart, times when I read the bible and really hear from Him, times when I worship Him with songs and praise….

In those moments, I am fully filled with what He desires for me.

I am healed in His Presence.

I am forgiven and set free.

I am equipped to keep serving Him.

I am given identity.

I am able to see new truths that were previously hidden from me.

I am able to rest, fully rest.

I am able to feel seen and heard.

God is soooooo good and He continues to amaze me.

Even when I fall or fail, He is right there to pick me back up, brush off my knees, and get me back on track.

Which is what happened with my scripture memorization. I started off with gusto and then the pressures of the week hit, and the routine of memorizing scripture hasn’t been fully integrated into my days yet.

I picked up my verses a few times throughout the week and read them aloud and practiced them, but I didn’t devote the full 15 minutes a day.

The good news is today is a BRAND new day! I can begin today devoting the full time and move ahead.

Tomorrow morning I will post two new ones to add onto the ones shared this week. That will give us four to study, and through the power of the Holy Spirit and our faithful commitment, they will begin to stay woven into our spirits.

I am excited to share a tool with you that may help with your memorization!

My friend Ruth who writes at plantedbylivingwater.wordpress.com shared it with me.

You take a verse or passage of scripture and you copy just the first letter of each word. You copy the punctuation in correctly and capitalize any letters that are capitalized. And then, you recite the scripture by just looking at the first letters.

I tried it out this week, and it really helped! I could tell if I knew the verse or not by reading it this way.

Here is what it looks like!

This is our 1st memory verse:

And here it is with the tool.

So, as you look at the scripture, you read it aloud from memory. If you need help, you go back and study the verse and then try again. 🙂

Here is the 2nd verse.

And here it is with the tool.

Here is a website that will convert the scripture for you!

So, if you are like me and trying to get these verses memorized before you add two new ones tomorrow, try this strategy! Let me know if it helps. 🙂

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for always being right there to help us start afresh. Lord, come and work in our hearts making us thirsty for more of You. Lord, weave Your Word into us so that it becomes part of who we are working Your ways into our new lives in Christ. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

  1. I’ve not looked at the website, but what you posted here shows me I’ve done okay this week. I realise I was a bit rusty on the scripture ref though! Thanks Vanessa.
