Good Morning Gorgeous,(its now evening…. started this post at 5:45am and we are coming up on 8pm…..)

It’s a brand new day. A fresh new start!

As we anticipate and ready ourselves to recieve Jesus afresh this Christmas, we can draw close to Him by remembering the miracles or times when we have seen Him move.

I imagine Mary and the intense joy she must have felt when she began to let the words of the angel Gabriel soak into her spirit.

The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Luke 1:28‭-‬33

She then visited with her cousin Elizabeth and when she opens her mouth such a rush of Holy Spirit wisdom and prophecy come out as what we call Mary’s Song.

Here are the amazing words that Mary spoke! !

And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”
Luke 1:47‭-‬55 NIV

In this season, she is on a spiritual mountaintop. She is hearing directly from heaven, and as she speaks, you can tell that she has understanding of the magnitude of this miracle.

She is carrying the Messiah in her womb. She is carrying the King that her people have been waiting for. She is living in the fulfillment of promise.

She has the Lord Himself dwelling on the inside of her!

And she must feel as if anything in her life is possible, like she can take on the whole world with the Lord on her side.

And then, a few months later she gives birth in a stable.

What was she thinking that evening? Was she curious at all about the entrance of the Messiah into the world in such a humble manner?

Did she wonder at all why the Lord would have her deliver such a miraculous baby in such dire circumstances?

Or did she lay there and return to what the angel Gabriel spoke to her?

Later, as her son grew and she had more children and life became regular and “normal” looking, did she wonder how this firstborn Son of hers would rise to take the throne one day?

When she witnessed Him being crucified, was she thinking of the angel Gabriel’s promise?

Sometimes when we are walking through the deepest, darkest valley, we need to return to the last Word God has spoken to us or be reminded of the last miracle we witnessed.

We need to purposefully remember the promises He has given us and cling to them like an anchor holding us steady.

We can also cling to the miracles He has done in our lives.

It was shown all throughout scripture how short the memory span is of humans.

The Israelites watched God part the sea, provide food in the middle of nowhere, and free them from slavery, and yet as soon as Moses took too long on the mountain, they made their own golden calf to worship. They forgot the miracles.

Later, Israelite King after King would return to God, receive divine wisdom or power or healing, and then later turn away again. They forgot the miracles.

The disciples of Christ again and again would express fear, doubt, shock, disbelief as they walked with Jesus. They would have their faith strengthened when He calmed the sea, when He healed people before their eyes, when He fed thousands of people, and when He drove out demons. But when tested, they forgot the miracles.

As for Mary, the mother of Jesus, I am not sure if she had moments where she temporarily forgot that her Son was born to her while she was still a virgin or that He was the promised Messiah. (You may ask how could she forget?! How did the Israelites forget the parting of the sea? How do we forget God’s miracles? It seems to be human nature…..)

I wonder if in the trials and testings of her life, she sat and remembered the day when she was visited by the angel.

I wonder if she ever questioned whether or not she had heard correctly.

I wonder if in the dark seasons when what she saw with her eyes didn’t seem to match the promises given by Gabriel, she cried out for God to explain or send another visitation.

I wonder what kinds of conversations she had with Jesus!

I wonder if she sat and told Him his birth story again and again…..

I wonder if His birth story is what kept her faith even as she watched her Firstborn be crucified.

And the birth story of Jesus can rekindle our hope to keep trusting that we will see the miracles of God again even if we are in a dark season.

The birth story of Jesus reminds us afresh that the promise may take decades to fully make sense, but God is continually working.

The birth story of Jesus reminds us to cling to every promise of God that is in scripture and that has been spoken to us, because He will fulfill EVERY one even when it seems impossible!

I encourage you to sit with Jesus and meditate on every miracle, healing, answered prayer that you have seen in your lifetime and let it remind you and stir up new hope that God will carry out His promises to you!

Dear Heavenly Father,

I am continually in AWE of you! You redeemed us in such a wild, miraculous way that it could only be the plan of an all powerful Creator God who can do anything! Thank You for leaving Your seat on high to take on flesh and give Yourself for us in such a radical way. Let us keep our eyes feasted on You today and all year long.

In Jesus’s name, Amen.
