Have you ever told your spouse this?

Good Morning Gorgeous,

It’s a brand new day. A fresh new start. A new day to rest in the revelation that God sees you and God hears you.

He has taken notice of you.

How often do you tell your loved ones, “I love you.” ?

I love you is a beautiful reminder, a reassurance, a declaration, and a promise all wrapped into 3 words.

In addition to “I love you”, there are 3 words that can mean the world to someone you love deeply.

I often also tell my husband, “I see you.”

We will be going about our day both plowing through the many tasks involved with running our home smoothly, and I will look at my husband and say, “I see you.”

Sometimes I will full name him, “I see you Chuck Wheelock.”

And he stops and looks at me and says, “Thank you.”

What am I saying and why are those words so incredibly important?

Because he works so hard without much expectation in return.

When he’s tired, he pushes through.

When he’s frustrated, he shows patience.

When he’s worked all day, he still stops at the store and gets what we need on the way home.

When the kids want him to look, he tries to be present.

When the dishes are dirty, he washes them.

He anticipates our needs and meets them often before we can even ask.

He has a servant’s heart. God made him that way.

But I Never want him to feel like I don’t notice. I want him to be reassured that he is seen and noticed and valued and recognized. I want him to know that I see him pushing past his comfort level, and I see his dedication to us. I see how he cares for his adult children and how he cares for his younger children.

Being seen is an important part of being loved.

He makes coffee for me every morning. He also makes coffee for every visitor that stops by!

And just like I dote over Chuck and tell him often, “I see you!”

There is a testimony in the Bible of a woman who felt seen and heard after being abused and hurt.

Hagar, a servant in the Old Testament, is treated harshly by Sarah, Abraham’s wife.

She is used by Sarah to have a baby with Abraham when Sarah is unable to conceive. She most likely had very little say in the matter , and after being treated harshly by Sarah, she flees to the wilderness pregnant and all alone.

There she has a Holy visitation with the Lord who meets her in the pain, the rejection, and the fear. He draws near to her and encourages her. He gives her a promise for her son and builds her up.

She names the Lord, El Roi. The Lord who sees me!

Being seen was healing balm to her rejected Spirit.

She wasn’t alone. She wasn’t without counsel. She didn’t have to flee. She could go back and bear her son. Her and her son had a right to be cared for and provided for by Abraham. The Lord took the time to tell Hagar the gender of her son and the promises He had for her. The Lord would increase her descendants.

She was SEEN! Even though she wasn’t bearing the promised son for Abraham. Even though she wasn’t the original plan to bear a son for Abraham, she wouldn’t be forgotten or abandoned by the Lord.

Genesis 16:7-16
[7] The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. [8] And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. [9] Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” [10] The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” [11] The angel of the Lord also said to her: “You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. [12] He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.” [13] She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” [14] That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered. [15] So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. [16] Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

The Lord SEES you today. He sees your POUR!

He sees your dedication!

He sees the tears shed behind closed doors.

He hears the cry of your heart.

He will meet you in the dry parched spaces.

He will give you sound counsel and He will never leave you aabandoned.

You can trust that His eyes are on you today.

Your sacrifice has been noted by the Lord.

And He has what you need today.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank YOU that we are seen by You. That you notice our pain, the rejection, the fear, the desire to FLEE from the pressures.  Come Lord and meet with us today and speak a life giving Word to sustain us through this season.  We invite Your wise counsel and Your Presence to guide us. Heal the rejection wounds and help us to have deeper revelation of what El Roi. The Lord who sees me means personally.

In Jesus’s Name,

Amen.

Blessings!
