What If the Weapon Was Never About my sweet Dog?

Hello Gorgeous!

I used to teach writing for a living.

Twenty years, a master’s degree, and countless nights grading essays.

But no one ever taught me how to write my way out of heartbreak, until Jesus showed me.

In 2021, my family and I were ministering in a homeless camp. It was one of those raw, holy assignments — where love doesn’t look polished and the Kingdom shows up in places people would rather avoid.

That’s when it happened.

Our family dog broke away and darted into six lanes of traffic. I crumbled as I saw what happened.  I ended up in the back of an ambulance, physically safe but spiritually wrecked.

That afternoon, the enemy showed up too.

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper huh, well it looks like this one prospered.

He whispered it like mockery. Like proof that God had failed.

I couldn’t argue. It felt like the weapon had prospered.

But when grief meets grace, healing doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it just kneels.

So I did the only thing I knew how to do. I got on my knees. I cried. I prayed. I whispered through clenched teeth:

I trust You, Jesus.”
Again. And again. And again.

Then one day, the Lord nudged me:
“Look up the word prosper.”

So I did.

It means “to fully succeed.”

That’s when I saw it clearly:

The weapon was the death of our dog.

The prosper would have been me quitting ministry.
Me shrinking back.
Me giving up on Jesus.

But that didn’t happen.

God didn’t just comfort me.
He commissioned me.

He said: “Write it down.”

And so began the scribal anointing on my life.

First came Surviving the Midnight Hour — my memoir and 12 biblical strategies for staying rooted in faith through trauma or sudden loss.

Then two more books followed.

Now, I coach others — especially Christian women — to write and release the message God has planted in their spirit. Not just for therapy. But for testimony.

Because someone is waiting on the other side of your obedience.

And the first step is simply saying yes.

If you’ve been carrying a story — one the world needs to hear but you haven’t known how to release — I want to walk with you.

🕊️ I use a step-by-step Christian publishing course called Kingdom Coaching, and for a limited time, it’s 50% off.

When you enroll, you’ll also receive FREE access to my mentorship community, Anointed to Scribe — a space where aspiring Christian authors gather for weekly teaching, Q&A, and deep biblical encouragement to write the story God gave them.

📆 This opportunity closes Saturday, July 5 at midnight CST.

Friend, if you’ve survived a midnight hour, your story matters.

Don’t bury your loaves and fish.

Bring them.

And let’s feed the five thousand together. 🥖🐟

With love and courage,
Vanessa Wheelock
