Leaving what’s known, comfortable, and safe is often exactly what is needed for the next big assignment on your life.
Nehemiah was living in comfort. He was the king’s cupbearer, a trusted position, safe inside the palace, surrounded by privilege and protection. But when he heard about the broken walls of Jerusalem, his heart broke.
Nehemiah 1:4 says, “When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.”
He could have stayed where it was comfortable. But he chose to leave safety for assignment.
Last weekend I was reminded of what happens when you leave comfort for calling. Chuck and I were already planning to attend a marriage retreat as a couple, but I was invited to show up not just as a wife, but as an author and vendor this time.
Because I said yes to writing my books, I now get to step into rooms I was already going to be in, but with a whole new Kingdom purpose. 📚
This is what obedience looks like.
Leaving what feels safe.
Stepping out even when you don’t know how it will unfold.
Trusting that if God asked you to build, He will provide what you need.
Maybe for you, leaving the palace means laying down perfectionism, fear of failure, or waiting for “one day.”
Maybe it means finally writing the book God has put on your heart.
Daily Declaration:
I am willing to leave comfort and step into my calling. The God of heaven Himself will prosper me as I rise up and build. (Nehemiah 2:20)
