Good Morning Gorgeous,
It’s a brand new day. A fresh new start. I struggled to fall asleep last night, and then I had a hard time waking up. We had a lot of rain and wind. I was snuggled under my weighted blanket and the rain was pouring down. It was the perfect weather to hit snooze. Now I am up and rushing through my post.
God couldn’t have set it up better though because this morning I wanted to share how patient and kind the Lord is with people. 1 Corinthians 13 is often read at weddings. It is the description of perfect love, and if two married people work towards this type of love, wouldn’t all marriages be wonderful?
The thing is we cannot steward this type of love fully to others without first experiencing it with Jesus. It is idealistic to always be patient, kind, never jealous, not easily angered, not seeking to get your own needs met, to always protect, always hope, always persevere. That’s a tall order, but that is the PERFECT love that God has for us.
He is all of those things. And as we learn to be filled with His love, we are better able to also love people in this way.
Here is the full scripture:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV
The bible says that God IS love. So if God IS love, then to help us grasp the character of our good, good Father God, we can re read that scripture and place God in every part where it says love. This just reminds us the type ot God we serve. It is a reminder that He loves us fully and perfectly.
Here is the same scripture 1 Corinthians 13 scripture with God replacing the word Love.
God is patient, God is kind. He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud. He does not dishonor others, and He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. God always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. God never fails.
We serve an amazing, beautiful loving, patient God who is kind and compassionate with us. He puts up with our mistakes, our disobedience at times, and our wrong thinking. He works with all of our mess and He still pursues us with His love. He desires to pour His love into us, and then bring us into a new way of loving others. A way that is possible when we are spending time in His love.
This Valentine’s Season, fall in love with God afresh. He has a love to show you by which every other relationship you have will benefit. As you are loved on by the Lord, you will be better able to love others.
That why the greatest commandment is: Love God, Love Others.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for a love that is hard to imagine. Help us to receive Your love fully so that we can be love to everyone we encounter.
In Jesus’s name,
Amen.
I am so grateful God is patient. Otherwise I would be in big trouble
we had that read at our wedding
Me too! It’s a beautiful model of the perfect love! 🙂
I know! I would be in trouble too!
