Who do you say that I am?

“But who do you say that I am?” is a direct question that Jesus asked His disciples in Matthew 16:15.  What is interesting about His question is its timing. It wasn’t a question that He asked them right when they met, but rather a question after they knew Him well.

At this point, they had been following Him for quite some time; they had witnessed miracles, heard the powerful teachings, and even performed miracles in His Name.   Their answer to the question would reveal if they were truly grasping what Jesus had been demonstrating.  It was like a teacher asking the class questions after a lesson to check for understanding.

And Peter got it!  He understood that Jesus was the Lord in the flesh who had come to redeem and restore His people.
Simon Peter answered and said,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16

Jesus had ministered to many more disciples than just Peter. Oh, did He get it? Jesus said that this revelation was given to Him supernaturally.

Look at Jesus’s Words to Peter,
“Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah,  for flesh and blood, has not revealed  this  to you, but   My Father who is in heaven.”

There is a principle in the spiritual realm opposite to the natural realm.  In the natural realm, we say things like, “Seeing is believing” or “I’ll believe it when I see it.” One must BELIEVE first, and then SIGHT is given in the spiritual realm!

It’s often the first knees knocking, trembly yes to Jesus, that suddenly opens our senses to see and understand things that seemed impossible before we confessed faith.

Paul explains it this way in a letter to the Church in Corinth:
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18

So, each of us must answer the question. “But who do you say that I am?””

The Holy Scriptures reveal Jesus Christ and His plan to save us entirely now and for eternity. The many Names of Jesus indicate that His plans for us are for good. Many of His Names reveal gifts, identity, and plans for us. They are our Holy Inheritance that we have access to when we make Jesus Lord and Savior.

He died for all of humanity. The scriptures say God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten son. Another scripture says that He desires that none would perish, no, not one.

So we know God’s heart is for our good.

How do we respond?

How do we enter into an authentic relationship with our Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ?

The Book of Romans tells us how!
We believe in Jesus Christ in our hearts and speak our beliefs aloud.

Prayer of surrender and declaration.

Following Jesus is a whole life of dedication. It’s not a one-time prayer. It’s a pledge to follow Him daily through the valley lows and the mountaintop highs. The prayer of surrender is simply the beginning of the most amazing journey!

Dear Lord,

I am READY. I may not understand everything, but I know I need a Savior. I cannot live life alone the way I’ve been living any longer. I must be saved, healed, set free, and delivered entirely. I believe You are Lord. I believe You are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins. I repent now for sinning against You, Lord, and rejecting You for so long. I believe you rose again, and I choose to surrender my life to you today so I may live, too! Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit and lead me all the days of my life into abundant life and peace. Make me a vessel to be used mightily by You. I want to serve You and Your kingdom now and for eternity.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

You just made the most important decision of your whole life! The Bible says that there is a Holy celebration in your honor right now!

Blessings to you! And a deeper revelation of who Christ is!
