Goooood Morning Gorgeous,
It’s a brand new day. A fresh new start. The sun will rise again soon. A constant reminder of freshness, newness, and 2nd chances.
God is beginning to reveal more of His character and His mercy to the Moses and the Israelites. They are His chosen people, but they are just learning this truth in the wilderness. This is the fulfillment of a promise made to Abraham many generations earlier. During this time in the wilderness they are traveling, learning, depending on God, and finding out who He is. He is telling them again and again WHO they are. He calls them His own special people, His treasure, a holy nation, priests, and His own possession. He is continually teaching them their true identity in Him. What it means to be His Holy Nation.
One of the traits of God He reveals as soon as they mess up and started to worship a golden calf and call it god. He reveals Himself as merciful. He makes a way for them to still be in covenant with Him. He gives them a second chance even though they turned away so quickly. He goes through the whole process again. He invites Moses up the mountain a 2nd time. He keeps Him there instructing Him for 40 days and 40 nights again. He mercifully re writes the 10 commandments on stone tablets AGAIN because Moses had smashed the first ones in anger. Yet, God lovingly chiseled them again.
He is a God of 2nd chances and as you continue to read the Israelite story, you see that He is also the God of 3rd, 4th, 5th chances. Our actions bring earthly consequences, yet there is ALWAYS a way back to grace. Back to the Lord. Back to covenant relationship. Back to the safety of being the Lord’s own special possession. Back to the shadow of His wings. Back to solid foundation. Back to higher ground. Back to truth. Back to the light. Wherever we have traveled, it’s not too late to turn around and head back to Jesus.
He is waiting with new stone tablets, new mercies, a new covering of fig leaves, new ways to heal your hurts. He will remind you again that you are His special treasure, and He will set you back on the path of safety and God given destiny.
Sometimes we don’t make a total turn away from God like the Israelites, but more of a subtle one in just an area of our life. A place where we used to be strong and firm, but now something else has replaced or filled in a space that God wants to fill. God is merciful and will be there to restore you from small wanderings as well as big travels in the wrong direction. He is a merciful, compassionate Lord who is passionately in love with His people. His plans for you are good and you can trust Him with every area of your heart.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for being a restorative God. A merciful Lord. A compassionate Father who knows us and our weaknesses. Thank you Lord for your Patience and Your Loving Kindness. Keep us close to you Lord and restore us when we slip.
In Jesus’s name, Amen.
Blessings to you today!
