A Universal Language?

Good Morning Gorgeous,

It’s a brand. New. Day. A fresh start. A new chance to seize an opportunity you missed yesterday. A new day to say I love you and to say it often! A new day to say I’m sorry, and then ask God for help not to repeat the same offense. A new day to make a call you’ve been putting off. A new day to spend some time in prayer. A new day to keep going.

A new day to LOVE and then love some more.

Right now, we have three extra little ones in our home. They are precious little girls who speak mostly Spanish. We will be caring for them for just 10 days, and even though their time with us will be short, we are already falling in love. Our hearts are growing bigger, and not one of us is left unaffected. Our whole family is pouring love into them from our 2 year old to our 12 year old.

What we are learning is that despite our language barrier, love is a universal language. When the baby shares her toys, she is showing love. When our 12 year old swims in the pool and plays with them, he is showing them love. When our twins take their hands to show them around, they feel their love. Our nine year old daughter has chosen to sleep in the extra bed next to the girls instead of her own room, and they can feel her love.

As we smile at them, care for them, feed them, talk kindly and lovingly, they can feel our love.

Love is a universal language. It transcends spoken words. You can feel love from someone even without words. And likewise, sometimes someone can be saying all the right things, but you can feel the angst in the room. You know that they aren’t being genuine. Love is more than the words we speak.

Love is the outpouring of what Jesus has placed on the inside of us. God is love, and the closer we draw to Him, the more love we have to share.

Love just “flows” from us. You can tell who is flowing with the love of God almost immediately upon talking with them. It’s like they glow. I believe that glow is the overflow of the Lord’s abundant love pouring out of them. When Moses went up to the mountain with God and then returned to the people, He was glowing bright. That’s the Presence of God. The people could see a physical change in Moses after time in the Presence of the Lord.

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord . When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them.

Exodus 34:29‭-‬31

The same thing happens to Christ followers today! As we spend time in His Presence, we are transformed to look more and more like Jesus. The change happens from the inside out. As we spend time with Him, the closer we will get to Him, and the more we will shine bright too.

When we spend time with the Lord:

Our rough edges get softened.

Our wounds get the care of a perfect Physician.

Our minds get renewed.

Our souls get refreshed.

Lies that we believed are brought into the light, so that the truth can shine on them.

Chains are broken.

We are set free.

Room is made in our heart for more of God’s love to fill those spaces.

The love fills us up and then begins to “overflow”!!! We have no choice but to share it. And look out for anyone who gets in our path after some time with Jesus!

The love just pours right onto them. The bank teller, the cashier, coworkers, other drivers on the road, our children, our spouses, our friends! Everyone will get touched by the runoff of love pouring off of us!! It’s the extra smile, the warm thank you, the kind handshake, the silly games with little kids, the generous tip, the loving words, the quick forgiveness, the extra room for a car to merge in front of you in a busy traffic line. And it all happens without much thought because the love is pouring in from God, and pouring out onto everyone anywhere near you!

That’s the opportunity a NEW day brings!

Love. Love. Love. NEW chances to really be the love of Jesus to all. And it begins with time with Him!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help us all to get stronger in the language of love. Show us practical ways to let Your love flow from us and onto others. Lord, equip us for the day ahead. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Blessings and love to you!
