Good Morning Gorgeous,
It’s a brand new day. A fresh start. A new day to rise into God and breathe in the freshness and newness of the day.
Old things have passed, yesterday is behind you. Today is ahead of you.
Glancing back is dangerous. It can pull you right out of your present and catapult you backwards into the very things you already been freed from.
Lot and his wife and two daughters were saved by the Lord. Two angels came to warn them that the city or Sodom and Gomorrah would be destroyed and they needed to flee from the city. They were warned very clearly to flee far from the city and NOT to glance backwards.
To glance back symbolizes a desire to return. When you look backwards, you momentarily leave the present blessing, the current rescue, the reality you live in now, and INSTEAD look longingly at the very mess you have been delivered from.
There is nothing back there. Nothing has changed for the better. The drink is still poison. The drug still steals. The painful relationship still has sharp, cutting edges.
Glancing back takes away the peace of redemption.
In this bible story. Abram has prayed to God to save the city of Sodom and Gomorrah if there can be found righteous people among the evilness. God agrees. And he sends angels to rescue lots family.
Sidenote… Prayer Works! When you are praying for a family member to be set free from addiction, God hears.
When you pray, angels move! When you pray for a child, a loved one, an upcoming, meeting, a school, a nation, a world, God’s heart is moved.
When He delivers that person, they have to MOVE into the delivered space and not return to their old junk.
Lots wife couldn’t help herself. Everything was left behind. The material possessions, the whole way of living, the friends, the good times, all of it lost when they were saved. She looked back. And…….she became a pillar of salt. Just like that.
This story always disturbed me. I always struggled that her punishment seemed harsh, like it didn’t quite fit her crime. Yet, as I read it afresh. She may have longed for the old sinful life. I don’t know her heart, only God does.
In looking back, she was possibly doubting her decision. Was it really so bad living surrounded by sin? Was it as bad as I remember? There were good times too, it wasn’t all bad was it? What if I exaggerated the horrors?
Friends, we struggle with the same questions. It WAS that bad. That’s why you were delivered from it. No, you can’t have a glance back at the old life just like a delivered alcoholic cannot dance with one drink.
Today, you can rise up knowing you are FREE and you are walking AHEAD in victory! Always forward, never back!!!
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for deliverance. Please continue to set your people free. If someone is reading this and not yet delivered, please gently guide them to healing and deliverance. For those of us who have experienced being set free, please keep us looking ahead, never back. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
Blessings and forward movement with Jesus!
