Good Morning Gorgeous,
It’s a brand new day! A fresh new start. A new day to rise and move closer to Jesus. He is right there calling you deeper and farther into a place of peace, trust, and His Holy Presence.
Today is November 1st. A brand new beginning. A month for showing gratitude and placing our eyes onto the blessings.
It’s a perfect day to begin memorizing scripture. If you’ve been reading this past week, I shared two blog posts:
Why should I memorize scripture?
&
Many of you, including myself were wondering which verses to start with and how to proceed.
I would like to invite all of you onto this journey with me. I am going to start today following the Navigator’s Memorization Tool. I love the order of the verses, and they really solidly go through the needed verses for the foundation of trusting and following Christ. For the entire list click here! Navigator’s Memory Verses Thank you Pastors Chuck and Betsy for their prayers, encouragement, and introduction to this system! Pastor Chuck writes a blog at www.lakeside4jesus.wordpress.com
Here’s how it will work!
I will post two new verses every Sunday morning. Those will be our memory verses for the week. I encourage you to get a journal or stack of notecards ready for this journey. Here’s my journal that I will be using.
With each new verse, I will also add an “I am” statement that the verse proves to be true. Many of you know how strongly I feel about speaking truth over yourself until they become core beliefs.
Here are our two verses for this week! I am so excited I could burst!
Verse 1
And Verse 2
To get started!
Write the “I am” statement at the top of your index card or page.
Then the chapter and verse, the scripture, and then the chapter and verse again.
The I am statement is the truth about yourself or the Lord that you are choosing to believe in faith. The scripture is God’s Word that proves it to be true. With the power of God’s Word which is alive, active, and sharper than a two edged sword, being weaved into your memory, you will have direct access to His Word which brings victory over all types of battles.
Then,
the Navigator’s System encourages you to spend at least 15 minutes per day memorizing by reading, reciting, or writing the scriptures. You can check out their site at http://www.navigators.org
It’s also encouraged that you handwrite the verses paying close attention to the details of punctuation and capitals. As you write, it helps to make the verse stick.
You can even write them again each day throughout the week or type them into a device daily.
And another piece of advice that was shared by Pastor Betsy who has been memorizing scripture for a long time is to say them when you wake up and right before bed. Something special about the first moments after you wake up and the last thing you hear before bed.
As we venture on this together, I’m sure God has new oil to pour into each of us as we allow His Word to be woven into the fabric of our beings. As you memorize, think of His Word as being knitted into you so that it becomes part of who you are. You are actually being renewed and recreated by the very Word of God. It will become intertwined in you so that it never departs from you.
That thought has my spirit so excited!
And throughout this journey, you can pray for Holy Spirit to enable you to memorize His Word, help you to understand and apply it in fresh new ways, and to illuminate any other verses to add as well.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the power it has, and thank You for the gift of Your Word! Help us to fall in love with Your Word afresh as we study and commit it to memory. Let it be stored in out hearts.
In Jesus’s name, Amen.
Vanessa I share your excitement about this as you begin. Holy Spirit will guide and encourage you and you will see fruit from this endeavor that you cannot imagine.
Betsy and I continue to lift you (and your whole clan) in prayer.
Blessings,
Pastor Chuck
Thank you SO much!!!!! 🙂 Your encouragement, wisdom, and prayers mean alot to me.
Thank you so much!
Amen! I have written them down and pray I’ll be able to keep up with you on this journey. Thanks Vanessa.
Yes! I am so thankful to memorize scripture alongside of you! 🙂
i love your idea of attaching them to I am statements too. Or ‘He IS’ statements at some point?
