Day 17: Who is Jesus? THE CORNERSTONE

Good Morning Gorgeous,

It’s a brand new day. A fresh new start.

A new day to allow Jesus to be the chief Cornerstone.

The Cornerstone is the foundational stone of a building. It’s often a corner holding two walls together. And check this out… the Cornerstone is the FIRST stone and it sets the direction for every other stone.

Jesus came to fulfill the mission of restoring mankind to relationship with the Father, and also to build a lasting body of people that would house His very Spirit.

He came to redeem His people and to build a lasting, growing group of believers that form one body. And this body has a shared mission, to go into all the earth preaching Jesus. These were Jesus’s final words to His disciples as recorded in Acts.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NIV

Jesus came and modeled what a holy spirit filled life looked like. He came and showed us the power available to us when we accept Jesus and are baptized by the Holy Spirit. He even told His followers that they would be able to do even more miracles than He did.

How? Jesus would be the first to triumph over death and rise from the dead, and then He would ascend to the Father and send the gift of the Holy Spirit to empower His people to build His church. He would give gifts to help them and to show the power that is available when Jesus lives on the inside of human temples.

Jesus was to be the very FIRST stone. The first to build His Church, but the builders rejected Him. We see this in Psalms. The stone that was rejected, Jesus, became the Cornerstone. This means, He became essential to a relationship with the Father. The stone that Israel rejected is now the only way unto salvation.

A building cannot stand without its cornerstone. And this can be applied to the church. Without Jesus at the center of it all, a church becomes just a building.

Jesus preaches that He is the Cornerstone by quoting Old Testament scripture.

And then in the New Testament, Peter, the same Peter who denied Christ three times is now filled with the power of the Holy Spirit boldly tells his fellow Israelites what they did by again quoting Old Testament prophecy. ” Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, and He has become the Cornerstone.” He is saying, “Jesus is essential.”

And then Paul writing to the church in Ephesus ties all of this together for us by saying to a group of followers of Jesus that they are now fellow citizens. He is talking to mostly Gentiles here. These would be non Jewish believers. He tells them that they are now fellow citizens with God’s people (those would be Jews) built on the foundation of the apostles of Jesus and the prophets with Jesus as the Cornerstone. JESUS AS THE MAIN foundational stone that everything else is built on.

Yesterday, we read scriptures about Jesus being the Rock and now we learn that He is the MOST important Rock. The Cornerstone. Without the Cornerstone, the building cannot be sustained.

And the members of the church, that’s you and me and every follower of Jesus are being built up together and nothing can stop the force of the Church in the earth when Jesus is the Cornerstone.

Jesus said nothing could stand against His church.

And the people of God have become living temples of the Lord. Meaning nothing separates us now from the Father because Jesus removed every obstacle. So now, we become Holy simply because Christ is Holy. And through our belief in Jesus, we are credited with His righteousness..

If you’ve been following these posts and studying the Names of Jesus with me, are you just amazed at the bold promises of Jesus?

Are you dazzled by how He stepped down from Heaven and saved us in the most miraculous of ways?

Does the promise of Jesus that we could lay hands on the sick and see them recover seem to wild to believe?

If Jesus said it, you can fully trust it.

Let’s pray to have bold faith that takes Jesus at His Word that He is who He says He is and He will do what He promised to do. Every Word of Christ will be fulfilled.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I praise You as the Chief Cornerstone! You are the builder of Your church. You are protecting and building Your church. Remind us daily that You are the center of our heart, center of our faith, and the center of our Relationship with the Father. You Lord, are the Cornerstone and we recognize today our FULL dependence on You.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Blessings!

Vanessa Lynn
