Hello Gorgeous Friends!
A few weeks ago, I taught about how to take authority over your emotions and get them to align with God’s order.
To take our emotions off the throne and not serve them as an idol, but move them down and serve the Lord and be led of the Spirit.
I shared multiple strategies for how to get our emotions to come under the rule and reign of Holy Spirit.
The teaching went long, and I didn’t share this strategy in my teaching..
When we are desperate. When we are being overtaken by our emotions, and we need immediate, emergency help…. Reading the Psalms can heal, deliver, and quiet our soul.
David wrote many of the Psalms when his life had taken less than ideal turns. He wrote many of them in distress when hiding in caves, when he sinned greatly, and when he was distraught down and out.
David learned a secret. He would speak to his own soul and get it to align back with the TRUTH of God’s protection, God’s provision, and God’s faithfulness.
So when you are struggling and its hard to even pray, you can open your Bible and begin to read/pray the psalms.
Here are a few that specifically address hours of need:
Psalms 34:4-22 NLT
[4] I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. [5] Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. [6] In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. [7] For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him. [8] Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! [9] Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. [10] Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. [11] Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the Lord. [12] Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? [13] Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! [14] Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. [15] The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. [16] But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. [17] The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. [18] The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. [19] The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. [20] For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken! [21] Calamity will surely destroy the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished. [22] But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

Psalms 31:7 NLT
[7] I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.

Psalms 9:1-11 NLT
[1] I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. [2] I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.

[3] My enemies retreated; they staggered and died when you appeared. [4]For you have judged in my favor; from your throne you have judged with fairness. [5] You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have erased their names forever. [6] The enemy is finished, in endless ruins; the cities you uprooted are now forgotten. [7] But the Lord reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. [8] He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness. [9] The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. [10] Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. [11] Sing praises to the Lord who reigns in Jerusalem. Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds.

Psalms 103:1-6 NLT
[1] Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. [2] Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

[3] He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. [4] He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. [5] He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! [6] The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.

Psalms 62:1-8 NLT
[1] I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. [2] He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. [3] So many enemies against one man— all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence. [4] They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face but curse me in their hearts. Interlude [5] Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. [6] He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. [7] My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. [8] O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Interlude

Psalms 94:18 NLT
[18] I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.

Psalms 62:5-8 NLT
[5] Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. [6] He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. [7] My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. [8] O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.

Thank You Lord for the psalms to comfort and soothe us in times of turmoil. May You meet with us intimately and personally as we read them.
In Jesus’s Name,
Amen.
