10 steps to becoming a Published Author

If you are carrying a book around in your spirit, it’s time to stop saying someday!

I’ve been where you are…. I had 10 book ideas with titles scrawled on the inside of my bible for years before I ever took a step forward.

Before you keep reading, save this so you can come back later.

If you want to write a book, do these things….

1. Make a list of possible topics or titles. What stories do you have to tell? What can you talk about for hours?

2. Take your list to your prayer room and begin to surrender it to the Lord and cover it in prayer. Sometimes, He will clearly highlight one, and sometimes He will order your list according to the order you are to write and release them.

3. When you have your topic/ title , create your table of contents by brainstorming the subtopics/chapter titles

4. Add a bible verse or verses to each chapter- and the main stories you want to tell in each chapter

5. Write the book in Google Docs. It auto saves to the cloud as you type, and it’s easy to manipulate and move paragraphs as needed.

6. Schedule a regular writing time and keep your writing appointment like a precious date. Don’t cast writing dates aside when life happens.

7. Invest in Grammarly and Canva Pro.. you need these!

8. When your book is done in Google Docs, format it in Canva.  You’ll do everything in Canva. Cover and entire book.

9. Use KDP to publish!

10. Throw a LAUNCH party!

I followed these EXACT steps and published 3 books in 8 months!

I used a step by step course inside of Kingdom Coaching that walked me through every..single..step.

I FINALLY WROTE THE BOOKS! And you can toooo!

Here are my books and the course I took that taught me everything I needed to move from dreaming about it to doing it!

Dear Heavenly Father,

I speak a scribes anointing over the person reading this. That they would lean into the assignment on their life and carry out the call. Lord, release to them the book subjects, the titles, the order, the verses, the testimonies, and give them strength to carry out the assignment to completion.  In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Blessings!

  1. Vanessa, this is so neat to find this post! I purposely came to your blog because I knew you had published and I wanted to message you for some tips.
I finished writing my memoir a few weeks ago and have been reaching out to Christian self-publishers. I have done lengthy research checking their reviews, etc. My book has gone through several assessment processes and has been accepted by three different self-publishers, HOWEVER there’s a decent price tag with them, the least expensive quote coming in at $2000. So going with one of them probably won’t be an option.

My main concern is with the editing process. I really wanted a Christian brother or sister in editing to pour over my message because I don’t want the Christian verbiage distorted. I want my commas, etc in the right place. Do you feel Grammarly understands the wording, where commas or quotes should go and that kind of thing? I’m not at all concerned about the content or flow of my material, I’ve had enough beta readers give positive feedback and even when the Christian publishers assessed everything checked out well in that area, they mentioned light editing aka the commas, etc. I just want to be confident in the process and I do feel I can figure out the format and uploading the material. I’m really just hung up on editing.
I’m curious and looking forward to your thoughts!! Thank you ahead of time!!

    1. Hi!!! Let’s connect by email or phone. 🙂 my email is Livekingdomminded@gmail.com.. send me an email, and of course I’m happy to help! Soooo excited for you!! And you can totally publish for less than $2,000. The course I took was $497 and worth every bit of the investment! I am happy to answer all of your questions! I also used grammarly the paid version and canva also the paid version. These 3 things gave me the tools I needed to be successful.
