Christmas Story Day 8: Open your hands and receive the gifts prepared for you.

Good Morning Gorgeous,

It’s a brand new day. A fresh start. The dawn will break soon and fresh light will spill out over you. Another new dawn, another new day to Seek Jesus wholeheartedly. When you look for Him, you will find Him. He is everywhere, and He can make things shift and work out on your behalf when you trust Him and are willing to also trust His timeline.

Zechariah and Elizabeth prayed for a son. They waited almost their entire lifetime, and still no answer and no child. They were an older couple well past their years of childbearing and still had not seen their prayer answered, nor any sign that it was even possible any longer. But God.

The Lord wasn’t going to bless them with any child, but He had a wild, abundant blessing. Elizabeth was going to bear a son who would be a prophet of the Lord Himself. She was going to bear a son who would baptize Jesus! A son who would have the honor of paving the way, preparing hearts and minds to receive the gifts that Jesus was bringing. This was to be Elizabeth’s son.. but she had to wait for the proper time.

If she was to bear the son who would make way for the Messiah, the Savior, and the Lord chose Mary to bear Jesus, then Elizabeth’s blessing, her child would have to be born at a very special moment..the time when Jesus was to enter the earth.

If the Lord answered Elizabeth’s prayer 10 or 15 years earlier, her blessing may not have been the same..For it was not yet time for Jesus. Mary would have been too young to bear a son, and John wouldn’t have been able to be the one to make a way for God’s people to receive Jesus.

Elizabeth and Zechariah’s story is often skimmed over in the bible, but they have so much to teach us about patience. Patience as we wait for our miracles. God may not have answered you yet, but that doesn’t mean He won’t. It may mean the timing isn’t yet right for the big blessing He has in store. God also showed us through Zechariah that even when we lack faith, He is still a faithful God. Zechariah didn’t believe the Angel at first even though Zechariah was a priest and he had been praying for a child. So we have a man of God who was praying for a child, yet when he receives news that a son is to be born to him. He is immediately doubtful. Isn’t that just like us? When we finally see breakthrough, we are in disbelief and sometimes close our hands to what the Lord is offering to us.

The Lord still blessed Zechariah with his longed for son and the Lord did something more for him. He gave him special revelation of who Jesus was and who his son John the Baptist would be for Jesus. Zechariah realized very early before Jesus was even born that He was our Savior, our redeemer, our light in the dark. I have been reading and rereading Zechariah’s prophesy about Jesus and it is miraculous. How did he know those things about a baby yet to be born? How did he know that this baby Jesus was the fulfillment of God’s promises? Only by the Holy Spirit whom we now have living on the inside of us! Yet, before Jesus, the Holy Spirit was not active and alive in every believer. The Holy Spirit gave revelation only to some, yet because of Jesus and the sacrifice He made, we are all now able to receive Heavenly wisdom. We are all able to hear the whisperings and gentle guidance that the Lord has for us. This was a rare occurence in the time surrounding Jesus’s birth. We live in a very special time in history in which the Lord has removed the veil between Himself and His people because Jesus came and dwelled among the people. Jesus got up close and personal with the people whom He so loved. He walked then in human form, and He walks now in Spirit.

Zechariah knew who Jesus was. He called Him: mighty Savior, Merciful, the Morning Light of Heaven, the One to guide us into Peace. Zechariah recognized Jesus and knew who He was.

Gorgeous Girl, that is the beautiful assignment set before us too. To seek Jesus and to recognize Him when we find Him. To know when we are hearing Him speak, to believe and trust Him when He answers our prayers, to trust also when the timing doesn’t match our expectations. Our Lord has great plans for us. He isn’t finished writing your story. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and you will be blown away by the masterpiece He paints of your life.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for new dawn breaking forth each day. Thank you that Jesus is the light breaking forth with Heavenly Light. Let our eyes be so fixed on You that we cannot be moved by the troubles or struggles of the day. Let our joy be great. In Jesus name, Amen.
